The day of our tour there was a memorial service for the people who were murdered by the suicide bomber who drove a truck into Buenos Aires' Jewish Community Centre. People planted a red rose for each victim and lit a candle in their memory. This event was not on the official tour but Salito knew about it and took us there. How can you not be moved by parents now living without their children?
We also saw a synagogue that activist and rabbi Marshall Meyer founded and talked with Salito throughout the tour. I used to work as a tour guide and I usually don't like tours because guides are often operating on "auto pilot" like robots. Salito was a real guy! and an excellent guide. The tour was definitely a highlight of our stay and I would do it again--only book six hours instead of three!
