Jewish settlement efforts around old Nazareth
started in 1957, with the development town of Nazareth Illit officially
established in 1962. The city has attracted new immigrants from
Eastern Europe since the 1970s. During the present decade, Nazareth Illit
has grown considerably, with about one third of its 40,000 residents new
immigrants from the Former Soviet Union. |
