The Solel Boneh Company, one of the bases of power of the Histadrut, goes
bankrupt due to the economic crisis.
Menahem Ussishkin, chairman of the Jewish National Fund, obtains one
million dollars from Canadian Zionists (to be transferred over a period of
ten years) for the acquisition of a new, marshy area of land intended for
settlement -Wadi Hawarith, later Emek Hefer (Hefer Valley).
