DATELINE JERUSALEM
It’s
rare, for example, to find any journalist based in
Israel
who
sees him/herself as anything but objective. Many reporters also blast official
Israeli reaction to negative press coverage. Veteran Dutch correspondent,
Conny Mus charges the Israeli Government Press Office (GPO) with treating
foreign journalists as if they were "enemies of the state,"
referring to a GPO decision to dismiss the BBC a few years back.
For a short period in 2002, in reaction to some particularly sharp BBC
reporting, BBC journalists were not granted interviews with Israeli government
officials and new reporters faced delays in receiving press credentials.
